Surfing Lessons, What To Expect

You must be really excited for your first ever surfing lesson, well who wouldn’t be? Finally the time has come for you to get on that surfing board and hit the waves. It can’t be that difficult for someone who is really passionate and very eager to learn like you, it’s as easy as ABC. If you are already enrolled in a surfing course then that is good, here are a few more things you can expect when you go on your surfing lessons.

1. Application form and written agreement.

Every surfing course you enrol in has an application form and a written agreement, so that if ever something bad happens to you (hopefully not), you will not be able to take action against the school you have enrolled for surfing lessons with. Surfing is an inherently dangerous sport, hence you do it at your own risk. As much as your surfing instructor will make it safe for you, one can never guarantee your safety.

The school will provide you with equipment suitable for the location your surfing lessons will be conducted and for the time of year you will be doing it. They will assess what size and type of board will suit you best and give you a surf board that is soft for beginners, to use during the training period.

2. Getting to meet your leader and loosen up

Meeting your instructor is one of the most exciting parts, you get to see who you will spend the rest of the surfing lessons with and you will be surprised by how fit they all look. Your leader will be the one who will lead you and your friends to a perfect spot where you will do your surfing lessons. Expect that you instructor will take you through some warm up exercises to loosen up those sleeping muscles because warming up is very important for every sport especially with surfing.

3. Let’s get in on.

The first step is not hitting the water right away. In your first surfing lesson you will be asked to do some paddling in the sand first and pretend that you are in the water. This may sound strange but that’s how you learn, everybody went through this process and believe it or not it’s really beneficial once you hit the water. You will also practice lying on your surf board and jumping up into a crouched position. You teacher will also teach you some easy style techniques that will give you a strong foundation.

4. Water time.

So you’ve perfected the on the beach training, now it’s time to take your surfing lessons to a whole new level as your teacher takes you into the water and lets you experience the rush. But since you are a beginner your instructor will only let you surf on the small waves first to practice those techniques that you were taught on the beach.

5. Pack up.

Okay the day is almost ending and so your first surfing lesson. Now it’s time to return your equipment and head back to school with your friends and teacher. What a day right? I’m sure your muscles will be aching the next day but it doesn’t matter at all, because as the saying goes “no pain no gain”.

Expect to have more exciting and awesome surfing lessons as you improve on your skills. This is just the first of many surprises in store, so you better get prepared for this one of a kind adventure.
